USA WINS IN THREE SETS AGAINST TRINIDAD AND TOBAGO

ROSARITO, Baja California.— The United States of America didn’t struggle to close on a victorious sunday against Trinidad and Tobago, after finishing 3-0 (25-17, 25-9, 25-11)
Trinidad and Tobago had been the black horse of the first round after getting two previous victories, one against Mexico and the other against Costa Rica. Unfortunately, the experience of some of the Olympic finalists on the American side, settled the conditions.
“We are happy for winning this match in 3 sets, Trinidad is a very good team with good athletes and in the first it was very hard for us to stop them, fortunately we kept the match on our side of the net“, said USA´s captain Nancy Metcalf who finished with 5 points, while the scoring leader for the americans was Jordan Larson with 10. Cynthia Barboza ended with 9 and Heather Brown with 8.
“We fought on the beginning with no fear, keep going and not stopping”, said Trinidad and Tobago’s captain Krystle Esdelle, who recorded 8 tallies. “We were fighting on the first set, but after the second one I didn´t know what really happened to us”.
The leader for the Caribbean athletes was Kelly-Anne Billingi, with 12 points, most of them by Spike. “I feel satisfied of this team, when we came here we had two goals to achieve, one of them was to win Mexico and the other one Costa Rica. We did it, and from now on is like playin on a big league level, that was our experience against USA”, said Francisco Cruz, head coach of Trinidad and Tobago a country that in four years advances to a second round as part of the top teams.
The trinidadians had a good first set, almost like and equal battle against the Americans, but the machine commanded by Hugh McCutcheon moved the pieces on the second and third, by showing their skilled advantage.
“Trinidad showed us a different kind of game, they have very athletic players, and after the first set we had to make some adjustments and keep playing hard during all the match, because if you stop playing hard you give the power of the ball to your rival, that was happening on the first set”, stated Hugh McCutcheon about the American team which will face Costa Rica on its next match.

ROSARITO, Baja California.— El equipo de Estados Unidos no batalló para cerrar con un domingo victorioso ante Trinidad y Tobago en la Copa Panamericana de Voleibol Femenil, tras derrotar a las caribeñas por 3-0(25-17, 25-9, 25-11).
Trinidad y Tobago se había caracterizado por ser el caballo negro dentro de la primera fase de competencia, luego de dos victorias previas en contra de Costa Rica y México. Desafortunadamente, la experiencia de algunas de las finalistas olímpicas por el bando estadounidense, sentaron las condiciones del encuentro.
“Estamos contentas por el triunfo en tres sets, Trinidad es un equipo muy bueno, con buenas atletas y en el primer set batallamos, por que no pudimos pararlas, afortunadamente mantuvimos el encuentro de nuestro lado de la red sin renunciar a bajar la intensidad del juego”, dijo la capitana Nancy Metcalf, quien terminó con cinco puntos, mientras que la líder anotadora fue Jordan Larson con 10. Cinthya Barboza cerró con 9 y Heather Brown con 8.
“Peleamos en el primer set sin miedo, seguimos y jugamos sin parar”, dijo por su parte la capitana trinitaria Krystle Esdelle, quien registró ocho unidades. “Peleamos fuerte en el primer set, pero no supimos que pasó después del segundo y en el tercero”.
La líder por el conjunto caribeño fue Kelly-Anne Billingi, con 12 puntos, muchos de ellos por la vía del ataque. “Me siento satisfecho por este equipo, ya que cuando llegamos aquí teníamos dos metas, una de ellas era vencer a México y la otra a Costa Rica, las logramos y a partir de ahí lo que viene es otro nivel, como jugar en Ligas Mayores, así vivimos esta experiencia ante Estados Unidos”, dijo el entrenador de las trinitarias, Francisco Cruz, quien en cuatro años las ha llevado por primera vez a la posibilidad de una segunda ronda entre los países mejor clasificados.
Las trinitarias tuvieron una buena primera manga casi equilibrada en contra de las norteamericanas, pero la artillería comandada por Hugh McCutcheon movió las piezas adecuadas en el segundo y tercer set para mostrar sus ventajas.
“Trinidad se vió agresivo en el arranque con un estilo de juego diferente al que esperábamos, con jugadoras atléticas, de buen físico y después de ese primer set tuvimos que hacer los ajustes pertinentes para seguir jugando fuerte durante todo el encuentro”, dijo McCutcheon.
“cada quien cumplió con sus objetivos, por que si dejas de jugar fuerte le das el poder del balón al rival y eso es algo que estaba pasando en el primer set”.
